The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF) are launching an offensive against the military camps near Laiza town _ in the area of KIA Brigade- 5 where KIO headquarters is located _ on the Myitkyina – Bhamo Road in Kachin State, at 6:00 a.m. today, and some military camps have been captured, according to ground military sources.
“It is launching offensive attacks against the military camps at 6:15 a.m. today, and some military camps are captured,” a military source told MPA.
The military camps _ that were launched offensive by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) at the same time _ are the Inlong Kha camp in Waingmaw Township, Shwe Nyaung Pin Light Infantry Battalion- 321, Shadan Pa camp near Laiza, Intap Bom camp, Khayar Bom camp, Bomray Bom camp, Nomlan camp in Moemauk township, and Konelaw camps.
“The Khayar Bom military camp has already been captured, and this camp is the highest here and is the most important. There are the junta troops who have been captured alive. The Bomray Bom military camp has also been seized, but it is still to wait for confirmation,” a military source said.
“I can see smoke coming up from the direction of Waingmaw – Laiza Road, and Bhamo – Myitkyina Road,” said an unnamed person.
Currently, the local residents of Laiza town have reportedly also started fleeing to safety.
“We started fleeing to safety when we heard the shooting of heavy weapons,” said a local man.
The fighting has been fierce around the Laiza region since July 3 of last year, and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has seized the military camps in Mabein township and Mansi township in the northern Shan State, and Hpakant township.
