It is reported that more than 2,000 residents are fleeing as junta troops and local PDF are fighting in Kyarhnyat Village, Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region.
The fighting has been going on in Kyarhnyat village, Thabeikkyin Township, since May 6th, and the junta troops are firing heavy weapons every day. One displaced person on May 8th and two displaced people on May 7th were injured, according to a person helping displaced people.
“For two days in a row, they (junta troops) have been firing heavy weapons. A house was also burned,” he told MPA.
All three wounded people were hit by heavy weapons while fleeing. On May 8th, a shell fell on a house, but for security reasons, the places where the heavy weapons hit were not disclosed.
A displaced local man also said that he could see the burning of a house in Kyarhnyat village from afar.
“We can see it from afar. There is a lot of smoke coming from the side of the village. We can see it burning. But we haven’t returned because the battle is still going on. We don’t know the exact numbers of houses yet,” he said.
More than displaced 2,000 people in four villages, including Kyarhnyat, are in need of food and medical aid and are still fleeing as of today (May 9th) morning.
“The villages on this side are small villages. Now, the number of displaced people has increased so much, we have to gather them on the side of small villages. They need food and medicine,” said the person helping displaced people.
Local defense forces have not released any information about the battle in Kyarhnyat Village.
