According to locals, a woman was killed, and five others were injured when the junta troops shelled Thayet Pin Su village in the western part of Khin U Township, Shwe Bo District, Sagaing Region.
At around 00:30 am. in the early morning of May 16, the military junta troops stationed at the traditional medicine hospital in Ye-U Township fired three times with a 120 mm heavy weapon at Thayet Pin Su Village, Khin U Township.
“There was no fighting. Two shells fell into Thayet Pin Su village. So, people who were sleeping were hit. The woman died on the spot. A 12-year-old child and four others were injured,” a local man told MPA.
The deceased woman was 46-year-old Tin Mar Win, and the injured were a 12-year-old child named Saw Min Naung, an 83-year-old man named Tun Yin, a 43-year-old woman named Thida Win, a 37-year-old named Min Wai Oo, and a woman named Kyu Kyu Khaing.
The traditional hospital where the military junta troops were stationed in the town of Ye U and Thayet Pin Su Village are only about one mile apart. Due to the deliberate firing of heavy weapons into the surrounding villages, most of the local people from the villages of Kar Seik, Yartaw, Myin Daung, Kyun Taw Gyi, Myin Kya, Tharwuthti, Thayet Kone, Taesu, Kinpyit, Tharraga, Magyioke and Indainggyi have fled to safety.
“Villages in the west, southwest, and south of Khin U usually flee to avoid a junta column. Pyu militia goes on a rampage, and junta troops fire heavy weapons from Ye U. On March, the villages in the west part of Khin U had to flee,” said a woman living in Ye U Township.
On May 11, 2024, eight local people were killed when military junta troops bombed while local defense forces were providing drone training at the school in Ma Gyi Oke Village, located on the border of Depayin and Khin U Townships.
