The military junta had arrested about 80 men for military service in Ye-U town in Sagaing Region, according to locals of Ye-U town.
Starting from April 29, 2024, the junta troops have been arresting young men in the town of Ye-U, entering to arrest inside their houses. A total of 80 men had been arrested till on May 7, and those men were detained temporarily in B.E.H.S (1) of Ye-U town, Ko Htoo Khant Zaw, an information official from Ye-U-based People’s Defence Comrade Group, told MPA.
“They (junta) are arresting all the men day and night. Now, we heard that up to 100 men will be recruited for military service. And we heard that when about 100 men have reached, those will be sent to the military training of the Northwestern Regional Military Command, ” said Ko Htoo Khant Zaw.
The arrested men are mostly young, and middle-aged men in their 40s were also included, Ko Htoo Khant Zaw explained.
“Security is tight for both in and out of the town, and the junta’s ambushes are also all over the place. Heavy weapons are being fired at the villages at night,” he said regarding the security situation in Ye-U town.
Since the military junta is arresting the youths, labor shortages have occurred in Ye-U town, and some businesses have stopped. The people of Ye-U are also fleeing to the villages, according to a local people of Ye-U town.
“The rice mills in Ye-U town have also stopped because of no more male workers. No one dares to go to shop from the villages to Ye-U town. People from the town are also fleeing war to villages. The town is not busy and active,” said a resident of the town.
Currently, about 80 arrested men are in the wards of Ye-U _ Shwe Pyi Thar, Aung Mingalar, Aung Chan Thar, Aung San, and Bo Aung Zay Ya _ and it is reported that the military fired shots while entering and arresting some of the neighborhoods.
