The military junta launched aerial bombardments on places, where is no fighting, in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, killing 2 young men who were playing cane ball and injuring 25 people, local people and local defense comrades claim.
On May 8, 2024, the junta’s plane bombed the villages of Yange, Netsi, Kywal Minkone, and Kyauk Khamouk in Thayetchaung Township at around 6:00 p.m., a resident of Natsi village said.
“A shell fell inside the Natsi soccer field, and young men were playing cane ball there. Two of them were killed. Those who died were only 15 years old. And the rest were injured,” he said.
After the military camp of Pedaek village in Thayetchaung Township was captured at about 8:00 a.m. on May 8, the military junta used aerial bombardment to attack villages far away from the battle site, according to a defense comrade.
“A military camp of Pedaek village was captured yesterday. So they (junta) intentionally bombed villages that were far away from the fighting. The people of this village were living in their village. And there would be many casualties and damages,” he said.
Due to air attacks by the military junta, more than 7,000 people from the villages of Yange, Netsi, Kywal Minkone, and Kyauk Khamouk were reportedly fleeing from bombardments to safety.
After the military coup, armed revolutions are taking place all over Myanmar, and the military junta is mainly using air attacks.
The air attacks by the junta have increased since 2023, and the military junta is conducting air attacks on religious buildings, schools, hospitals, clinics, and villages almost every day, without distinction between military targets and civilian targets.
