The junta military opened fire heavy weapons at Laiza where the KIO headquarters is located in Kachin State, killing 3 civilians and also landing on the Chinese side, according to local people.
A mother and her child in Waid Kyain Ward in Laiza town were killed by the junta’s heavy weapon at around 10:00 a.m. on March 7.
“It happened near Laiza Hospital on Mon Lai Khet – Wai Kyain Road at around 10:00 a.m., and the roof of the house hit by the shell was destroyed. The dead child also hit his head, and a man was injured on that road,” a local woman from Laiza told MPA.
Similarly, another man was reportedly killed when a weapon exploded on the road while he was riding a motorcycle to the Mon Lai Khet IDP camp.
In addition, the military junta was dropping bombs with jet fighters around Laiza, and a heavy weapon fell and exploded inside the Chinese side.
“I heard the sound of the plane being shot back from this side as well. The junta launched air attacks on the side of Laiza town and Liseng village,” said a 30-year-old man.
“The explosions were very loud. The weapon fell near me and that shell landed on the Chinese side. Five minutes after the explosion, a cloud of dust rose up,” said a woman who had experienced the explosion of the weapon herself.
On October 9 of last year, the junta’s weapon explosion happened at the Mon Lai Khet IDP camp near Laiza, killing 29 civilians including children and injuring about 60 people.
