On the night of last May 11, the SAC troops set fire to Yan Aung Myay Ward on Chaung U Town, Sagaing Region, and it is learned that the local residents who were fleeing the fighting are experiencing the effects of Cyclone Mocha and are currently in need of food and clothing.
“On the night of the 11th, the SAC troops burned down it. The neighborhood that was destroyed was the Yan Aung Myay Ward of Chaung U Town. The area was further known locally and divided into Nyaung Nan Yat, Myay Nan Yat, Pway Yat, and Nyaung Pin Yat. The people who lost their homes because of the arson are now staying and fleeing the fighting on the covered passage of pagodas and in the forests. Now, because of the storm, all of those fleeing the fighting are in need of food and clothing,” said a member of the local defense force in Chaung U Township.
On the night of May 11 of this year, nearly 30 houses were lost due to the SAC troops burning the Yan Aung Myay Ward in Chaung U Town.
“They (the SAC troops) came in and set fire at night, so people didn’t have time to transport anything. Because of that, the people displaced by war need everything right now. In addition to food and clothes, it is currently raining continuously, so they mainly need blankets and clothes,” said an official from Moe Thar Yeik Media.
On May 11, clashes broke out after the People’s Defense Forces attacked the SAC soldiers who were camped near the Myanmar Economic Bank in Chaung U town.
The soldiers of the SAC burned down the western quarter of the Yadanar Shwe Gu Gyi Pagoda in Chaung U Town and abducted some people as hostages, and they have not been released until now.
On the same day, SAC troops also burned down Ngarshan Village, Chaung U Township.
