The junta’s plane bombed a monastery of Akyi Pan Palwin village in Kyaukhtu sub-township, Saw Township, Magway Region at around 11:00 a.m. on May 9, killing 25 people and injuring about 50, according to local people.
While village tract administration, people’s defense forces, motorists, and villagers were having a meeting in a monastery of Akyi Pan Palwin village, the military junta dropped two 500-pound bombs and fired rockets at them.
“The entire monastery burned down. The monk of the village’s monastery was also hit by bombs. About 25 people were killed. The exact number of dead bodies has not yet been collected. The injured people were nearly 40 or 50,” a local woman of Akyi Pan Palwin village told MPA.
The monastery that was hit by air strikes is located in the east of the village of Akyi Pan Palwin. As it is located on one side of the road, there was no damage to the houses in the village.
“I think it’s because of the junta’s informant Dalan. The junta’s informant would surely know that there will be a meeting. And only the monastery was shot. Yesterday, the phone lines were cut. Today, after the airstrike, the phone line was restored a little,” a local man from Anyar Pan Palwin village near Akyi Pan Palwin village, explained about the junta airstrike.
Regarding the damages, MPA contacted Dr. Kyi Soe Tun, in charge of Saw Township’s Public Administration, but it could not contact him.
