Family members confirmed that “U Nyi Pu, who served as former Prime Minister of Rakhine State under the National League for Democracy (NLD), was not allowed to receive medical treatment by the Military that sized the power and arrested and charged him and sentenced him to prison”.
“Former Prime Minister of Rakhine State, U Nyi Pu was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison by the SAC. While he was unjustly sentenced in the prison in Sittwe, his one eye could not see the view,” family members informed.
“It has been about five months since he presented himself to be allowed to make surgery for the clouding of his eyes. But the SAC did not allow him for medical treatment,” the family members informed.
“Medical treatment has not been received yet. He can’t see because one eye is clouded. He wants to treat it surgically,” Ma Kyi Kyi Oo, U Nyi Pu’s eldest daughter, told MPA.
The family members also said that he was not allowed to receive such medical treatment. Even though almost two years have passed since the day he was arrested, he has not been allowed to see his family members even once.
Human rights activists inform that the SAC that does not allow such medical treatment violates not only the rights of prisoners but also basic human rights.
Regarding prisoners, there is a prisoner’s right in human rights. If a prisoner is sick, he must be received medical treatment. If not, it is a violation of human rights,” a human rights activist told MPA.
Former Prime Minister, U Nyi Pu, was imprisoned by the SAC seized the power, to 2 years under sub-section (b) of section 505 for committing offence against the State, 11 years and 4 months under sub-section (a) of section 130 for violation of the provisions of the Constitution and three corruption cases.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has informed that the SAC has been abusing torture and basic human rights violation, including not allowing medical treatment for those they have arrested and imprisoned. There are deaths of political prisoners due to basic human rights violations”.
