Myanmar’s junta has attacked the health sector 1,293 times since February 1, 2021, according to the statistics of the National Unity Government (NUG).
In addition, 343 hospitals and clinics were destroyed during these periods; 104 health workers were killed and 131 were injured, according to the NUG.
The above statistics were released by the NUG after the military junta bombed Vumthu Hospital in Mindat Township, Chin State, on April 25.
“The military junta’s deliberately targeted attacks on hospitals, clinics and the health sector are flagrant violations of the Geneva Conventions, UN Security Council resolutions and international humanitarian and human rights law,” the NUG said in the announcement.
In addition to hospitals and schools, the burning of villages and the destruction of sacred buildings of various religions show that the military junta is one of the worst organizations in the world, the revolutionary community commented.
“Their brutality is beyond measure. I must say that they are the cruelest and worst people in the world. The reason they don’t even leave hospitals and schools is that they don’t have laws, military rules or warrior ethics. However, they don’t have these things in their heads. What is always in their minds is that they oppress the people and instill fear in them,” a revolutionary soldier from Magwe Region told MPA.
Some of the revolutionary comrades pointed out that the military junta controlled many areas in the early days of the revolution but did not gain an advantage and caused more casualties on their side, and later they have been conducting more heavy weapons attacks and airstrikes.
“At the beginning, the junta tried to control territory whether it could and also failed in politics. After that, its only way out was through the military, so I saw that in the later operations, it did more airstrikes,” a soldier participating in the revolution commented.
NUG says that the international community should not ignore the continuous attacks of the military junta on Myanmar’s health sector and innocent people, but use all possible means to prevent and take action quickly and effectively, and show sympathy on the side of the affected Myanmar people.
