Six people were killed in a week due to airstrikes and artillery shelling by junta troops in Momauk Township, Bhamo District, Kachin State, according to the statistics compiled by MPA.
On May 13, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m., the junta dropped two bombs by air on Myo Thit Village, Momauk Township, without a fight, resulting in the death of a man named Aung Naing Win and injuries to two women.
“The man died, his wife was injured on the head, and the other was only slightly injured,” a resident told MPA.
Similarly, on May 7, 2024, at around 7:00 a.m., the junta carried out an airstrike on the cottage hospital in Myo Thit Village, resulting in damage to the hospital.
In addition, an 80-year-old man with injuries sustained by an artillery shell and an unidentified man were said to have been killed in Siin Village, Momauk Township, on May 10th.
“Junta troops from Ban Mauk have been continuously firing towards Momauk and Mansi with artillery, drones, and also by air. Houses were also burned down. Those who were left at home were those who could not run. Those who were able to run couldn’t bring anything. There were also many injured people. One from Helong village – hitting in the thigh, bled to death on the way,” said a displaced man from Bhamo Township.
In addition, on May 8, around 9:00 p.m., an artillery shell exploded inside Siin village, killing one man and injuring another, he added.
On May 10, 2024, at around 12:00 noon, at the entrance of Bhamo Town, near the Lay Mine military hospital, clashes were intense between both sides. Daw Sein in her 40s was reportedly killed by a bullet.
At present, local residents from Momauk and Mansi townships and the villages of Alinkaung, Karnan, Manpon, Kyenan, Kyauksakan, Lonjar, Sihat, Konelaw, Helon, Naung Paung, Siin, Jayin, Sinkhan, Manyut, and Kaunngtone are fleeing to Bamho, Monyin, Myitkyina and Mandalay.
Since May 7, 2024, fighting has been going on between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Military Junta in Momauk and Mansi Townships, including Bhamo Township, for more than a week, and the KIA has occupied some military camps, including police stations in Mansi and Momauk.
