The SAC’s staff and locals have confirmed that a field census has been conducted by the SAC subordinate groups since the morning of Jan. 9 in Rakhine.
On the ground, the door-to-door field enumeration groups (Working Group) are conducting household census field surveys in Rakhine State, Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Rathaetaung, Kyauktaw, Mrauk U, Minbya, Myebon, Kyaukphyu, Gwa, Ann, Sittwe, and Ponnagyun townships.
In such a gathering in Maungdaw town, Maungdaw district administration committee chairman U Nay Oo, township administration committee chairman U Kan Tun Aung, and members from various departments participated in the gathering.
“This is a very important matter. That’s why the District Chairman and Township Chairman have to come themselves. Mainly, they also take pictures to present to the superior,” an official from Maungdaw District General Administration Department told MPA.
As such, in Maungdaw Township, the Working Group said that household population census field surveys will be conducted in the city’s neighborhoods such as Myoma(East), Myoma (West), Myoma (South), Myoma(North) neighborhoods and village groups.
Maungdaw District General Administration Department also confirmed that the census will be conducted from Jan. 9 to 30 with 78 groups in the 78 counting wards in 66 groups of wards and villages.
Some Rohingyas from Maungdaw Township also said that the Rohingya people were also included in such counting and that the Rohingya people were only written as Bengali.
“They checked with the list they have and ask if these people are there or not. If not, where did they go? They questioned that they went to Malaysia illegally. Then they wrote down as Bengali,” a Rohingya woman from Maungdaw Township told MPA.
The military, led by coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, is trying to conduct household population censuses nationwide in preparation for holding illegal elections in August using the PR system.
In his New Year’s speech, the Acting President of NUG said that the entire public together should respond to the threats to the public’s information and property, on the pretext of the door-to-door population census.
