An official from Mandalay District’s No.6 Battalion (NDA-MDY) told MPA that the military junta killed a young man, and burned down Tawpu village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, at 8:00 a.m. on March 8.
“At first, Tawpu village was burned down without a fight. The village has more than 1,000 houses. More than 400 houses were destroyed by fire. A third of the village was destroyed,” said an official from Mandalay District’s No.6 Battalion (NDA-MDY).
While the junta column was burning Tawpu village, the local defense forces and the junta troops clashed at 1:00 p.m. noon, and the junta troops arrested and took some local people as hostages to the village’s school.
“The military column was Division 99. They arrested people as hostages after the fighting. Now, some of those have been released. It doesn’t know the number of those arrested. The person killed was an 18-year-old boy. He was killed near the school,” he added.
During these days, the junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee are burning and destroying the villages of Yathar, Phetyin, and Tuyin Bo in Myingyan Township, and the residents are reportedly fleeing to safe places.
“The inspection is also serious inside Myingyan town. The junta troops even inspect the body. The strength of the military is only in Myingyan town. Only PDFs are on the Myingyan Taungtha and Myingyan – Natogyi. I heard the fighting was in Pyisan village this morning,” said a man from Myingyan town.
Last April 8, the military burned and destroyed Yathar village in Myingyan Township, destroying more than 260 houses and killing 3 local people.
