Around 80 people walking around Yangon City were arrested by the junta military during the second week of February, and those people have not been released until this morning.
According to the investigation of two Urban Guerrilla Forces, 80 people were arrested between February 7 and 13, and most of them were young people.
“Within the February 7 and 13 of this month, we listed that more than 75 people were arrested. This is a list of people arrested only after the enforcement of the conscription law, not those arrested while checking the guest list,” said Comrade Black Ice from Sanchaung People’s Defense Force.
Those arrested are reportedly residents of Yangon Townships _ Hlaing, Taikkyi, Mayankone, Insein, North Dagon, Than Lyin, Hlaing Thayar, Thingunkyun, Tamue, Kamaryut, Kyauktada and Ahlone.
“As a special case, a young man was arrested under Penal code 505 (a) in Taikkyi township. A family of 6 family members was arrested in U Po Thein Street, East Ward of Thanlyin Old Town. Another woman from Mayankone was arrested and sent to the Ye Kyi Ai interrogation center on February 8. A total of 4 young people were arrested at the intersection of Hlaing Thayar -1 Road, on both February 10 and 11. Those 4 youths were forced to get off on motorcycles and taken away with handcuffs,” said Ko Pi Tar, chairperson of Sanchaung Township’s Core Strike Column.
As a massive arrest, the junta troops reportedly arrested 10 youths from Insein township on February 9; 17 people from Thingunkyun on February 11; 10 youths from Tharketa’s Market-7 on February 12; and 15 youths from South Dagon’s Industrial Zone-2 on February 13.
“Many young people were arrested and taken by forcing to stand up if the youths had reached 18 years old, near the station market in Mayankone Ward-1. We cannot report the exact list of those young people yet,” said Comrade Black Ice.
In addition, the junta troops arrested at least 12 youths _ who returned from kicking football _ in North Dagon and North Okkalapa Townships and released them after extorting 100,000 kyat each on February 12 and 13.
