The military junta launched 34 airstrikes in Mindat township, Chin State, in April, killing 5 people including 2 comrades, and injuring 30 people, according to the report released by the Information and Record Department of Chin Defense Forces (Mindat) on May 3, 2024.
Due to the junta’s air attacks in April 2024, Wun Ma Thuu hospital, 2 Christian churches, a school and 24 houses were destroyed, according to the report.
“It is right the people were killed in an airstrike on Wun Ma Thuu. 4 of them were patients, and one was a patient guard. We are doing a revolution, so I see the enemy is working as an enemy,” Ko Zalat Thwe, in charge of the information and record department of the CDF (Mindat), told MPA.
In addition, the Mindat-based junta’s infantry battalion 274 opened fire with heavy weapons two times in April, injuring a civilian and damaging 2 houses.
“Wun Ma Thuu Hospital can also conduct major surgeries. It is a reliable hospital not only for the people but also for the resistance comrades. That’s why I think the junta launched airstrikes. Even after the first attack on Wun Ma Thuu, the air attack came again the next day,” said a local man in Mindat Township.
The Wun Ma Thuu is a reliable hospital for resistance comrades and people not only in the entire Mindat township but also in southern Chin State, Magway Region and Sagaing Region, and it is a public hospital that provides health services for major surgeries almost free to the public and free of charges to resistance comrades.
“Now the junta’s planes are flying through Mindat Township. I think it is going to attack Jing Dwe. The people have to dig bomb shelters in their houses. We don’t know when they will attack, so we are worried,” the resident continued.
In addition, the joint forces of Chin Defense Forces, the Arakan Army (AA) and PDF alliances captured the town of Jing Dwe in Kanpa Lat township, on April 29, 2024, and the junta troops retreated followed an attack by the allied forces.
Due to the attack on Wun Ma Thuu Hospital in Mindat Township, the operation room, patients’ housing, laboratory, surgical equipment, ambulance, oil barrel, medicines, staff housing, and personal belongings with a total value of around 100,000,000 kyats (Hundred Million Kyats) _ were damaged.
The doctors and medical staff at the hospital were not harmed during the attack. There is an urgent need for help and support of rehabilitation to be able to re-operate the medical treatment for the people and revolution.
