The Rohingya have confirmed that the SAC is pressuring them to close down the Kyauktalone Rohingya IDP camp in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State.
It is said that the SAC issued an order to move the camp to a new location before May 15th with its own plan.
“They summoned and said this during the Eid Festival out of the Muslim fasting month (Ramadan), so the entire camp is silent and sad. There is no drinking water or electricity there. Roads are not finished yet,” a Rohingya IDP told MPA.
The five elders in charge of the camp were summoned to the township administration office on April 21 and told that they would have to move, as the Military ordered them to move, and threatened to take action if they did not comply, the Rohingyas said.
The place where the new is to be moved is about two furlongs (1 furlong = 660 ft) away from the current camp, and houses of 12 feetx22 feet with tin roofs, bamboo walls, and wooden floors have been built, but they say that they are not suitable for long-term living as they are built with wild and softwood.
Another Rohingya IDP told MPA, “The bamboo wall is thinly spread and covered. So, you can see it through. The roof is left only three inches from the edge of the eaves, so it is not weather-proof. The ponds are also very far from the houses,” another Rohingya IDP told MPA.
The Kyauktalone Rohingya IDP camp was forced to relocate 380 Rohingya families, with a population of about 1,100, from Kyauk Phyu City due to the 2012 conflict.
More than two years after the military coup, the camp was forced to be closed permanently and threateningly.
