Handlooms will be donated to the Htoogyi villagers in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, according to the S&C Assistance Group for fire and war hazards and education.
Htoogyi village is a village that makes a living by weaving the traditional cultural heritage of Myanmar. On February 20, the military of the SAC burned down the village, destroying more than 100 looms.
An S&C official said that 10 handloom looms will be donated to Htoogyi village as an initial step, and currently, the process to obtain the looms has started.
“Those who are currently standing with only one handloom. We will take a census. If there are 50 people standing with one handloom in the entire village, we will donate the 10 looms that we will now donate by drawing lots. The remaining 40 will be donated by other lots,” he said.
At least 10 looms will be donated to Htoogyi village, and the price of one loom is 600,000 Kyats.
“Until now, no one has come to donate money to us to donate 10 sets. Those who want to donate could show up if they do. Even if they don’t show up, at least we, from S&C, will make efforts and donate at least 10 sets,” he continued.
The S&C also announced that S&C team members went to the ground of Htoogyi village and are working day and night to rebuild houses and rebuild handloom factories.
On February 12th, the military burned Kyauk Myint and Tinttei villages in Shwebo Township, Pan Hlaing village on February 14th, and Htoogyi and Teipin villages on February 20th.
