The township’s electricity office said that electricity will be restored to two wards of Mogok only if it pays 80 million kyats.
On January 26th, electricity was cut off in Yepu Ward and Thaphanpin Ward in the eastern part of Mogok, Mandalay Region, due to non-payment of electricity bills. According to the residents, the electricity office said that through the ward administration officials, the electricity office will restore the electricity if it pays 40 million kyats per ward.
“For the first time, the bill has already been paid, and now we have to pay 40 million kyats per ward, so we will have to pay 400,000 kyats per house, and we will have to pay for the house that is not used, so we will not be able to get the electricity back,” said a resident of Yepu Ward.
In these 2 wards, there are houses that have paid the electricity bill and there are also houses that have not paid the electricity bill at all. Therefore, the houses that have been paid for electricity bills and the houses that do not use electricity must also be included proportionally.
In Mogok, the electricity has been cut off for a long time in the neighborhoods that do not pay the electricity bill, and there are neighborhoods that restored electricity when they had paid for it.
According to some residents, despite paying for electricity, electricity is only available for around 6 hours a day in Mokot, and it is often cut off.
It is known that it is inconvenient to even charge the phone because the electricity is often cut off within those six hours.
