It is reported that some political prisoners in Insein Prison, Yangon, are being transferred to Tharrawaddy Prison.
U Tun Kyi, a member of the steering committee of the Former Political Prisoners’ Association, said that the prisoner transfer began on Jan. 14.
He said that this act of transferring political prisoners to other prisons is done intentionally to cause difficulties not only for political prisoners but also for their family members.
“That is an undeniable issue. Some of the male/female political prisoners and some prisoners were moved to Tharrawaddy Prison. There are also male/female political prisoners. They do as always. They are moving the unjustly kidnapped political prisoners like chickens in and out of a basket,” said U Tun Kyi.
On Jan. 14, around 6:00 a.m., the prisoners were transferred from Insein Prison to Tharrawaddy Prison in Bago Region by eight vehicles, according to a source in Insein Prison.
“Seven cars of only men were sent, and women were sent to Tharrawaddy Prison in one car. They were transferred with eight vehicles. Most of them are political prisoners,” he said.
U Tun Kyi added that in recent days, it has been found that the SAC is deliberately transferring political prisoners from Insein Prison, Tharrawaddy Prison, Mandalay Obo Prison, Pathein Prison, Monywa Prison, Hpa An Prison, and Myingyan Prison.
