The SAC published that “in Mandalay, 16 UG members were arrested along with explosive weapons on 31 December in 2022 and 1 January in 2023”.
The list published by the SAC includes two 19-year-old women and 16-year-old youths, including U Indrasaka, a head-monk of the monastery from Chanayethasan Township.
“The two youths of Mandalay Young Force (MYF) as well as others were arrested in Aungthayar Ward in Chanmyathazi Township,” the SAC published.
An official of the Mandalay City-based People’s Defense Force said that “the 16 UGs that were arrested by the SAC were members of the Urban Revolution”.
“People’s participation has become less in urban revolution. UGs are intertwined with the people. People are isolated, so there is no place for UGs,” an official of the Voice of Mandalay told MPA.
“The SAC said that the UGs entered Mandalay city with full weapons. So, they inspected each and every street and Ward in Mandalay. There are people who were arrested. I don’t know if it’s UG or not,” a Mandalay resident said.
A local resident told MPA that “the SAC arrested two motorcycle riders and a pedestrian by a home-used-car in Mandalay on 31 December”.
“A boy standing on the road was arrested by a home-used car. I don’t know why he was arrested,” he said.
On 1 December in 2023, Mandalay No More Dictatorship People Defense Force (Mdy) reported that “the SAC soldiers were attacked with two remote-controlled mines while security was tight to welcome the New Year at the Mandalar Sri Stadium on 31 December in 2022”.
