The junta infantry battalion 275 in Myawaddy township, Kayin State, surrendered to the Karen National Union (KNU) joint force on the morning of April 6, according to ground military sources.
“They (junta) surrendered early this morning. I still don’t know the confiscation of weapons and the extent of the junta force. We were able to capture the junta checkpoint in Thin Gan Nyi Nyaung yesterday,” said a PDF comrade participating in the ground battle.
In addition, Myawaddy-based Thin Gan Nyi Naung Strategic Hill and the Light Infantry Battalion 357 were seized by the resistance joint forces in the afternoon on April 5, and 2 Howitzer cannons, 2 heavy weapons (120 mm), and many ammunition including an anti-aircraft machine gun were also seized.
The junta military bases were attacked by the resistance joint forces starting yesterday morning. Despite continuous aerial bombardment by the military junta, the Thin Gan Nyi Naung Strategic Hill and Light Infantry Battalion 357 were captured at about 2:00 p.m.
“It is right that the light infantry battalion 357 and the junta strategic hill were captured. We were able to capture a lot of weapons and ammunition. The relevant battalions/units and columns will release details about the battle situation,” said a strong military source.
The infantry battalion- 275 has surrendered, but the front office and police station inside Myawaddy town have not yet surrendered, according to a comrade participating in the ground battle.
“It’s right they surrendered. I don’t know the front office and the police station yet. We are communicating to ask them to surrender. The battle is still going on. The junta plane came to shoot in the morning,” said a comrade participating in the ground fighting.
Until now, the fighting has continued fiercely, and the houses and yards of the residents have reportedly been set on fire due to air attacks and artillery by the Military.
Regarding the above fighting conditions, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the Resistance Joint Forces have not yet released official press news regarding the detailed conditions.
