According to the officials, Joint Local Defense Forces seized the entire Khampat town within a week from the time those forces started attacking Khampat town in Tamu District of Sagaing Region.
The Local Defense Forces started attacking Khampat on November 3, and they seized the entire town on November 7.
A spokesperson serving in the Tamu District’s PDF Battalion (2) told MPA, “We seized the town at around 11 a.m. today. Two comrades were killed from our side, but there were no injuries”.
The Tamu District’s PDF Battalion (2), Moving Column SR2, Region Column, Chin Defense Force (CDF) and Joint Local Defense Force jointly attacked and seized the town. It is still verifying the casualties of the junta troops and the seized ammunition, he said.
The military junta had stationed at two places in Khampat _ the township police station and the military base hill _ and the joint defense forces could seize the police station on November 3.
When we started to attack the police station, the junta troops and police left the police station and went to the military base hill. After 5 days of fighting on the military base hill, we seized it today. Many junta troops were killed, and some ran away. I can’t tell details yet, a comrade in the battle told MPA.
During the battle, the junta reinforced ammunition and ration by fighter jets and helicopters, and launched airstrikes. So, many locals were forced to flee.
“The junta came to shoot 3 times a day by a fighter jet. In the meantime, helicopters came to deliver the ration. Yesterday, the air force did not come. Today, I’m happy as PDFs seized the town but I am afraid when the junta will attack by air on the town without reason” according to a resident in Ward 2 of Khampat.
The Joint Local Defense Forces had reportedly seized the Witok military base between Kalay and Tamu, Yarzagyo military base (1) and base (2), and Khampat town.
