Despite being in a situation where the hanging rope is put around their neck, the coup leader Min Aung Hlaing’s associates are strongly continuing their cruelties. Even in a situation of having absolutely no trust from the international communities and Myanmar public, they continue to violate human rights and the law, and executed pro-democracy activists and elected leaders.
This happened following the ICJ (International Court of Justice) rejecting the objections of the terrorist SAC to the lawsuit against them alleging that they have committed genocide against the Rohingyas. The decision was made by the ICJ on July 22 and the news of Ko Jimmy, Ko Phyo Zayar Thaw, Ko Hla Myo Aung and Ko Aung Thura Zaw having been executed since July 23 came out. The official announcement was made on July 25 via their propaganda media. However, there were divisions with no clear indications.
Currently, it’s clearly seen that the trust of the international organizations on them is weakening. The international communities know that the SAC and their forces are committing atrocities across Myanmar, and amidst urges not to continue their actions and to take the desires of the people into consideration, the Myanmar military dictators conducted the execution of prisoners which is a rare case in the 21st century.
The United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said, “The show trials and executions are the military regime’s blatant attempt to silence democracy and they can never defeat the brave spirit of Myanmar people with these actions.”
The ASEAN Chairman, Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen said he was highly disappointed with the decision despite his request regarding the execution of prisoners. In particular, the Myanmar military hasn’t even participated in the cooperation to solve the crises of Myanmar. This is proof of why the ASEAN five-point consensus have not been implemented.
The ASEAN was rather poor in solving the Myanmar crisis. The military regime seems to have a blatant disregard for the ASEAN five-point consensus and continue their way. The ASEAN special envoy to Myanmar, Prak Sokhonn, has visited Myanmar twice early this year and met with top leaders from the SAC, but to no avail.
This is the reason the ASEAN envoy Prak Sokhonn despondently left Myanmar and noted, “There’s no more power medicine to cure the Myanmar crisis.” The ASEAN’s feeble handling of the Myanmar crisis has been met with criticisms. The SAC’s execution of political prisoners and political activists has made the situations worse and more complicated. The anger of the Myanmar public came out of the flesh and the disgust for the SAC grew higher.
The Myanmar military has no ability to understand what ASEAN says, ignores international warnings and continues its blatant brutalities against the public. However, due to the spirit of the Myanmar people who are resisting against the military dictatorship, it hasn’t been as easy as the terrorist SAC had thought.
Now, the ASEAN also has growing suspicions on the coup military in the process of solving the Myanmar crisis. Therefore, they have been continuously blocked from attending any meeting led by the ASEAN.
Due to lack of trust and political will, there are so many hindrances in implementing the Myanmar peace process that even the ASEAN special envoy Prak Sokhonn expressed, “I don’t think even the superman can solve the Myanmar crisis.” Surely, it’s apparent that, according to the voices following the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Phnom Penh, the ASEAN is rather disappointed with the Myanmar military.
The United Nations has already officially warned the terrorist SAC to stop its actions and to immediately release the people’s elected leaders and political prisoners, and the terrorist SAC’s decision which executed the prisoners caused an outcry around the world. Tthe terrorist SAC’s action thus was condemned in a joint statement by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Britain, the United States, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Norway and Canada.
It can be noticed that the topic of human rights has totally faded since the time of the coup to date. The people inside Myanmar can no longer express what they believe and a single fact that one is against the coup of the terrorist SAC will lead him or her to facing cruel actions. It must be said that especially the detained political activists in the prisons are mainly suffering from those circumstances.
As they are in the cupped hands of the terrorist SAC, their lives are at the mercy of the terrorist SAC. Deprivation of human rights inside the prisons has emerged amidst their prohibitions and media blackouts – via letters from the prison to the media. Rights to receive medication are being lost and if they don’t get along with the prison authorities, they would get kicked and beaten.
There are yells like, “You! You’re the revolutionaries? Has the revolution been a success?” followed by tortures and revolutionary vows of the prisoners get mocked at the same time, according to a highly reliable source from inside the prison.
“We are very confident about the facts we received. We just want to say that the information we received are 100 percent accurate. You will also understand this,” the information official of the Student Union of Hpa-an university once explained about the conditions suffered by fellow comrades in the prisons.
It’s difficult to know incidents inside the prison and even the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) isn’t allowed entrance. “To be honest, I don’t even want to say anything anymore. It makes no difference. We even met with officials from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner and presented these situations,” information official of Hpa-an University heartbrokenly said.
Following the terrorist SAC’s announcement of the execution of the prominent politicians, news about the terrible occurrences and how the unjustly imprisoned are losing their human rights inside the hellish prisons where news blackout is imposed came out plainly like a flood pouring down a field.
All four who were cruelly executed by the SAC did not receive any legal conditions for a solution within the legal framework. Even though the prison authorities confirmed to the families that the execution was true, the families have not seen the bodies till present and they only knew it at the words of the prison authorities.
After such actions, the Myanmar terrorist military imposed additional prison terms on the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Regarding this, the Foreign Minister of Malaysia, Saifuddin Abdullah, called for an immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, stating he stood with the people of Myanmar.
“The additional prison terms on Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the recent execution of four pro-democracy activists are proof that the military government has repeatedly ignored the request of ASEAN leaders for a firm and all-inclusive dialogue for the national reconciliation of Myanmar,” the Foreign Minister of Malaysia stated.
Malaysia wants decisive decisions for the peace processes of Myanmar and is a country which has often objected to the actions of the terrorist SAC. It has also consistently urged the ASEAN to engage with the oppositional organizations of the terrorist SAC.
There are events awaiting to present many more sweet troubles to the terrorist SAC out of these circumstances. The United Nations issued a statement in early August based on the evidences available about situations developing in Myanmar.
In the report, it was stated that the Myanmar military was systematically committing crimes against humanity. Conflicts occurring in Myanmar are seriously affecting women and children, and arresting hostages is also in a terrible situation. The report came out before the fifth anniversary of a military operation which left almost 1 million Rohingyas homeless.
According to the facts collected by the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) organized by the United Nations, rape and other forms of sexual violence are reported to have more effect on women and children.
Keeping the evidences is to let the offenders know and it is impossible that they should continue committing without being taken actions against, said the IIMM chief, Nicholas Koumjian.
The SAC has systematically committed crimes against humanity during its coup period and the obtained evidences will be proof and they will have to pay for them one day, it was warned.
The Myanmar regime which is between the domestic and international pressures has met with a terrible situation again during the trip of the United Nations Special Envoy on Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, in recent days. Because Miss Noeleen Heyzer frankly said that meeting with the terrorist SAC was not giving them legitimacy. Her trip to Myanmar was an expression of the UN’s concern for the people of Myanmar as well as to alleviate conflicts and poverty, it was said.
The unrest and various situations currently going on in Myanmar have happened after the peaceful protests following the terrorist military ousting the elected government led by the Nobel laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi were met with brutal crackdowns by the terrorist SAC, and the Spring Revolution hence transitioned into armed resistance.
Even though the above situations are being experienced during the coup in Myanmar, the terrorist SAC is continuing on its path ignoring the international condemnations and the desires of the people of Myanmar.
Therefore, it seems that the terrorist SAC is playing a dead end game despite facing pressures from all sides. Because of all this, Myanmar is headed for the worse rather than the better and the terrorist SAC also is barely hanging on the stage they forcibly took.
