The State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint and former Union Minister U Min Thu, three of them were sentenced to three years in prison by the Nay Pyi Taw Special Court on September 2 for allegedly exerting undue influence on the Union Election Commission, according to the lawyer circle in Nay Pyi Taw.
In today’s trial, all three were sentenced to three years in prison with labour in the case charged under Section 130 (a) of the Penal Code, and they were not allowed to enjoy the days of imprisonment.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint have already testified that they are not guilty of this matter and that the teams to correct the voter lists were formed only in accordance with the law, including departmental officials.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has already been sentenced to 17 years in prison in 10 cases, so if the election case is added, the total prison sentence has reached 20 years.
