On April 2nd, while the GZ Special Task Force – Wetlat and its alliance went to rescue five people who were abducted by the SAC troops in a monastery in Bonebwe village, Wetlat Township, Sagaing Region, and seven PDF comrades were killed.
” The 100-soldier column that came out of Yintaw village and abducted five people and kept them hostage in the village monastery. We went to rescue them,” the in charge of the GZ Special Task Force, Ko GZ told MPA.
Seeing that the five arrested people were about to be killed, the People’s Defense Forces went and opened fire, and a battle ensued with the SAC troops, he said.
“When we started to attack them (soldiers), they shot at us preoccupiedly. The SAC soldiers who were in an ambush also shot us from behind. It was as if we were being shot from both sides. Our comrades only had to shoot them back with a single shotgun (handmade). So, all the comrades nearby fell because our weapons are not good enough as theirs. Only one or two survived,” Ko GZ continued to explain.
He further confirmed that the five civilians who were arrested by the SAC troops escaped during the battle. MPA has not been able to independently confirm the casualties of the SAC troops in the battle.
