A total of 32 children were killed by the military junta’s attacks from March 1 to 26, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
Among the dead are 16 girls and 16 boys under the age of 18, including a 1-year-old child. Among them, 17 children were killed by the airstrikes, according to the statistics.
“The air strike on children is actually a very cruel war of terror. We would like to request that NUG take practical and effective measures against those junta members who wage a war of terror against children as soon as possible and cooperate with the international community,” said Mr. Tun Kyi, the head committee member of former political prisoners.
According to the AAPP, out of the 32 children who died in a period of almost a month, Rakhine State had the highest number of deaths with 17 children.
After the coup, the military junta has been carrying out airstrikes on fighting areas across the country. In these attacks, they have attacked civilian areas as well as hospitals, clinics, religious buildings, schools and IDP camps.
From February 2021 to December 2023, there were a total of 1,652 attacks in which the military junta used air strikes, killing 936 innocent civilians and wounding 878, according to a statement from the ‘Nyan Lynn Thit Analytica’ research organization.
“The military group’s air operations are increasing year by year, and the number of civilian deaths and injuries is increasing significantly. The research organization urged the entire public to participate in the jet fuel cut movement to stop the international supply of jet fuel used for air strikes.”
Political analysts note that the military junta’s targeting of civilians is a violation of the Geneva Convention and a war crime against humanity.
