Junta troops and its subordinate (Shanni Nationalities Army-SNA) forces have been burning Tarmahkan Village in Hpakant Township, Moh Nyin District, Kachin State starting at 8:30 a.m. on March 3 – according to residents.
“They (junta and SNA troops) have been burning since morning. About half of the Tarmahkan village has already been burned. Wards 1, 3, and 4 are burning. The SNA and the junta’s army set them on fire. About 60 houses have already burned. The west side of the village monastery has also been burned. The fire has died down. If it is extinguished, they will set it again. In the morning, the army marched in a column, including the SNA forces, from Kathaing Taung (Moutain),” a resident of Tarmahkanvillage told MPA.
The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) captured a police station in Taurman village during the battle to capture the Tarmahkan military camp that started on February 26 and is continuing to attack the 119th Light Infantry Battalion near Tarmahkan Village.
“Now I hear that the SNA and the junta army are in the village. Since the day of the battle, the village has been bombed by airplanes and shot with machine guns. If KIA captures the 119th LIB, it can enter Hpakant,” said a local who is avoiding the war.
Due to the fighting near Tarmahkan Village, the people living near Tarmahkan, Hawngpar, and Namyaetaung Villages are fleeing the war, and a man from Maw One Ward was killed due to the junta army’s shooting on February 27th.
