It is reported that the junta troops are arresting people again in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region.
Today (February 12th) at around 9:00 a.m., a force of around 20 soldiers from the gas station gate on the Monywa-Mandalay Highway arrested some young men who were sitting at a tea shop at the entrance of Taung Pone Village, Monywa Township; similarly, they entered Kutaw Palin Village and arrested more youths, a local said.
“There are a lot of people who have been arrested. It is still not confirmed for sure. What we can confirm is that two young people were arrested when they entered Kutaw village, and two people were arrested while sitting at a tea shop at the entrance of Taung Pone. Soldiers usually go in and out of Kutaw Village. So, they were arrested there,” said a local.
After the junta promulgated the Militia Conscription Law on February 10th, the junta troops arrested more than 200 young people on passenger cars passing through Nyaung Pin Wun Village in Sagaing Township and Nat Ye Kan Village in Chaung U Township on the Monywa-Mandalay Highway in Sagaing on February 11th, according to residents.
“I haven’t heard of it being released yet. Yesterday, I sent a message to the people not to use these sections of the road. So, there is no more traffic today (February 12),” said Ko Nway Oo, head of the Civil Defense and Security Organization Myaung Township (CDSOM).
After more than 100 young residents were arrested in Monywa Town on February 11th, it is known by some residents that Monywa Town is very quiet today.
“There is still a little traffic. There are also soldiers driving around the city,” said a Monywa resident.
Min Aung Hlaing signed and promulgated the Militia Conscription Law, which is being condemned by people all over Myanmar and causing concern.
The total number of people arrested today at the entrance of Monywa Township has not yet been confirmed.
