The junta is threatening to seal off the homes of residential people who fled from war due to the fighting in Taungoke town, Rakhine State, if those people do not return to their homes, according to locals.
“The junta troops said like a speech in the village that they would seal off homes of people who fled from war whatever inside the town or villages, and they forced people not to try to flee and to rely on anyone, but forced those to trust them,” a man from Sirpyin village said.
In addition, the junta forced people to landfill bomb shelters in the villages of Taungoke Township and the junta said that if people re-excavated the bomb shelters, they would take action, he added.
“The junta column has been patrolling in the town with full arms from February 4 until today, and they announced going around the town with a car not to flee if the fighting will take place and if residents flee from war, whose houses will be sealed off,” a woman from Theintaung Ward of Taungoke told MPA.
As the military junta is threatening to seal the homes of those fleeing the war, some of the displaced people from the IDP camp are returning to their homes, according to a villager of Chaung Thone Gwa.
In addition, the security of entrances and exits of the land road and sea route has been increased, and there are difficulties for the people who need to travel for emergency health reasons because they have to ask for a recommendation letter from the relevant ward administrator for the travel, according to local people.
Currently, the prices of food and medicine have increased exponentially due to restrictions on the import of goods and travel to Taungoke town.
