When the junta troops entered the village, they opened fire on the fleeing residents in Kanswei Village, Myingyan Township, killing five people, it is reported.
On February 5th, around 6:00 a.m., a junta column with 50 soldiers that was at the intersection of Thin Pyun Road, Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, opened fire on the people who were trying to escape as they entered the village, according to the People Defense Force of Natogyi Township (Pa-Ka-Hpa under the NUG).
“They shot and killed those who ran away—because of the column’s entry. They did it because people avoided them,” said the information officer of PDF-Natogyi Township.
The deceased were three women and two men, whose ages have not been confirmed, and their bodies have not yet been recovered.
As the column entered, the residents fled, but the junta troops arrested a total of 200 elderly people and children who were hiding inside the monastery in Kanswei Village, said the person in charge of the Myingyan People Strike Committee.
“They (the junta column) have been at the intersection of Thin Pyun Road for two days. The police from the Myingyan Police Station were also there. The elderly and children did not run away and hid in the village monastery. They were arrested there. Their phones were also confiscated,” he said.
It is reported that local residents of five villages, including Kanswei Village, have fled due to the entry of the junta column.
It is known that this column is burning Kanswei Village this morning (February 6th), but the damage has not been confirmed yet.
