The junta’s heavy weapons reportedly exploded inside a funeral home, killing 4 civilians and injuring 14, in Yephyu Kan village in Nyaung Lay Pin Township, Bago Region.
Nyaung Lay Pin-based Light Infantry Battalion-20 fired heavy weapons at around 11:30 AM on January 1, and the weapon shell exploded into courtyard the funeral home in Yephyu Kan Village, according to some local residents.
“A weapon shell exploded into a funeral home in Yephyu Kan. Some of the injured were sent to Nyaung Lay Pin Hospital. The more seriously injured were sent to Bago Hospital. Ma Aye Mar _ who was sent to Bago Hospital _ died on the way near Phaya Gyi town,” a person helping the injured, said.
Daw Sanpo (55 years old), U Nyun Tin (62 years old), Ma Aye Mar (35 years old) from Yephyu Kan village, and Ko Hein (16 years old) from Kyokyar Kwin village, were killed, and a total of 14 people including 5 men and 7 women and 2 children, were seriously injured.
“The first 3 people died on the spot after falling to the funeral home. And one more died on the way to hospital near Phaya Gyi town. We did not get the names and photos of those who died in the hospital. Our list only collected the dead and the seriously injured. We still do not have the list of the people who were hit by a piece of weapon,” a comrade from the Special Commando Battalion-Southern Region, said.
The weapon shell fired by the junta’s Light Infantry-20 exploded in Yephyu Kan village, injuring 4 people including a mother and her child, at around 10:00 p.m. on October 30, 2023.
The fighting between the junta’s military, and KNLA and PDF is intense in Nyaung Lay Pin District, and the military is firing heavy weapons and air supports. So, more than 400,000 local people from around 20 villages are reportedly fleeing the war.
