It is investigated that local residents, people are facing difficulties because they have not yet received electricity, after being hit by Cyclone Mokha, in Rakhine State.
“Before the storm, there was no electricity. Because of that, after the storm hit, the houses couldn’t run water dispensers. They (SAC) said that it’s still being repaired, so I can’t say whether it hasn’t been done yet, but it would be good if we can get it back soon,” said a local of Sittwe, Rakhine State.
The SAC announced today that in Rakhine State, the electricity pylons, cables and transformers and power substations were damaged by Storm Mokha and the power outages will be repaired, and the electricity was distributed by generators.
In Rakhine state, Cyclone Mokha caused almost 100% damage, and in addition to residential houses, religious buildings and public buildings were also damaged.
“Now they say, it’s a garbage cleanup team from Yangon, and team had already arrived here. I see that they are clearing broken power poles and power lines. I haven’t seen any other big work yet. I don’t know when the fire will come. There is no electricity, so everything is difficult,” said a local resident of Sittwe Town.
The 230 KV of Main Power Substation in Ponnagyun and the Ann-Mrauk U – Ponnagyun- 230 KV power lines, which transmit electricity in Rakhine State, were damaged by the storm.
“Due to the storm Mokha, Myebon, Minbya, Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw, Ponnagyun, Sittwe, Rathaedaung, Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Kyaukphyu, and Pauktaw townships in the northern areas of Rakhine, have not received electricity since May 14,” said the residents.
Until now, we still haven’t got the fire. I don’t know where they will be provided with a generator, but we don’t have it on this side. It will be convenient to have fire to cook and get water. Cooking is made by wood and charcoal. But the main problem is lack of water. We have to drive with the fire for the water, so we need to get the fire. If possible, let’s make the fire as soon as possible,” said local woman from Kyauktaw Township.
It has been investigated that more than 560 engineers and employees from the Electricity Transmission and Coordination Department of the SAC have been sent to Rakhine State in order to get electricity in Rakhine State as soon as possible.
