An official of the Myanmar SCM-MAGWAY Region said that if the NUG does not judge the sexual assault in Maesot openly, it will be difficult to be considered a good leadership.
Yesterday (May 12th), some revolutionary forces sent an open letter asking the NUG to provide transparent justice for Alice (name changed), a victim of sexual assault that occurred in Maesot, Thailand.
“The NUG’s Department of Children, Youth, and Women sent us a message about that. The case is being investigated. Until now. We do not know where Aung Min is being held. We do not know which department is responsible for the investigation, and also where the victim and her mother are being held,” he said.
The Ministry of Women, Youth and Children’s Affairs (MoWYCA) has formulated policies regarding children, but has yet to see them being implemented in practice, he said.
“This is not just this case. People’s human rights are being violated gradually. If the NUG is not able to handle it well, it will be difficult for me to be considered a good leader. It has become a question of the legal aspect,” he said.
He added that the 28 revolutionary forces in the open letter sent to the NUG government yesterday under the title “Expose all injustices without silence”, hope that the NUG government will be accountable, responsible, and transparently judged.
“The NUG must first show how it is working with the accused as a defendant. The medical examinations of the case should have shown as a start,” he said.
In addition, he also said that the health and developmental therapy of the victim who was sexually assaulted needs to be taken care of.
