It is reported that about 3,000 local residents have been fleet due to the unprovoked air attack by the Military Council on a school in the west of Re-U Township, Sagaing Region.
On May 9, at around 2:00 p.m., a jet fighter dropped 2 bombs on Bodhi School in Thantaw Village in the west side of Ye-U Township, and no one was hurt, and so, about 3,000 people from Thantaw Village, Tentinram Village, Myo Gyi Village and Ywa Ma village are still fleeing so far today this morning.
“Since yesterday, the people of 4 villages in the western part of Ye-U have been fleeing and sheltering in monasteries for safety. Even now, the danger of airstrike is still a concern.
“There are nearly 3,000 displaced people, and the food assistance is not prepared, so there are difficulties,” said Ko Htoo Khant Zaw (mother’s son) in charge of information at the People’s Defense Comrade.
Ye-U Township Displaced People’s Support Group has announced that 2 bombs were dropped by a jet fighter on Thantaw Village’s High School, causing some buildings and a house to be damaged in the school grounds, as well as electricity cables.
“They dropped 2 bombs and opened fire with heavy machine guns. This is the first time that a jet fighter has been bombed. They only use jet fighters to shoot at the upper Sagaing areas. There is no fighting. There is no ground column. Even though there was no battle, they intentionally bombed a school teaching preschool-children without any reason,” said Ko Htoo Khant Zaw (mother’s son).
The teaching time of Bodhi school where children who were studying were over at around 12:00 in the afternoon of May 9th, so the children were not harmed in the bombing.
In 2022, the military council attacked by airstrike on the schools of Letyetkone village in Tabayin Township, and so, 6 children and 13 people who were studying in school were killed.
On April 11, 2023, almost 200 people, including women and children, were killed by the air attack on Pazigyi village in Kanbalu township.
