The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) attacked and seized the last remaining military base, Bum Re Bum, near Laiza where the KIO headquarters is located in Kachin State at around 2:00 p.m. on March 15, according to a military source.
“We were able to capture this base at noon. The junta troops from Hkaya Bum and the small front camps gather at this base. The Brigadier General of the Division-88 is there. He has also all fled. The junta plane came to shoot. Now we are in the process of clearing,” a military source told MPA.
The junta base Bum Re Bum already seized by the KIA, has been attacked with an offensive since March 7, and the junta troops also attacked back with airstrikes.
Hkaya Bum and Bum Re Bum military bases are the junta’s main frontline camps near Laiza and are the military camps firing heavy weapons towards Laiza town.
“Military camps, firing heavy weapons to Laiza, are Hkaya Bum and Bum Re Bum. I do not hear the sound of heavy weapons anymore, but the planes are hovering,” said a Laiza resident.
“Last night, I don’t know how many planes Y-12s came. I can’t even watch the news uploaded Wai Hin Channal. They (junta) dropped bombs. They bombed in the afternoon now,” said a man who fled the war.
Since March 7, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has attacked an offensive against the junta camps _ on Myitkyina – Bhamo Road, Waingmaw – Laiza Road, and townships of Waingmaw, Momauk, and Sumprabum, and more than 20 military camps have been seized currently.
