It is reported that there is currently a fever outbreak among the displaced people in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Regon, due to malnutrition and weather conditions.
People suffer sickness and weakness because the weather is getting hotter during the day and colder at night during these days, and they lack nutrition as well, according to reports by the Shwebo Township Independent Support Team.
“Pregnant women, the elderly, people with chronic diseases, and children were given priority treatment. We did not make a list according to the disease. Some of them were weak and had to be given intravenous drugs. Some of them have to look for food in the hot weather, and they suffer from sunstroke. There were also many people who were weak due to a lack of proper nutrition,” said an official from the Shwebo Township Independent Support Team.
Around 2,000 IDPs from the villages of Sheinmakar, Indaung, Thae Bote, and Ywa Thit in Wetlet Township badly live in nearby forests, riverbanks, and monasteries, and they are struggling to make ends meet because their houses were burned down in 2022 and 2023.
“CDM health workers are providing medical treatment. We are helping with medicine. There is still a lot left to do to continue treatment. We are also running out of medicine. Now we have stopped treating after only two days. On the 8th, more than 180 were treated, and on the 9th, more than 200 were treated. If our situation is getting better, we will treat them again,” he said.
A local resident of Wetlet said that the main problem faced by the displaced people is the difficulty of food, they do not have enough food and subsequently become bad in health.
“It won’t be easy for us to live like this in the long run. Houses were burned. So, there are no columns in the village; if we even return home, we have nowhere to live,” he said.
The junta column is stationed in Sheinmakar village, Wetlet Township, and they do not march around anywhere.
