According to a military source, at least 10 front camps of the military junta were captured in the area of KiA Brigades 5 and 3 in Laiza Town, where the KIO headquarters are located in Kachin State, on March 7th.
“Hpunpyen Bum, where are the hills from which heavy weapons are fired towards Laiza, is the front camp . Hpunpyen Bum was captured at around 3 p.m. yesterday (7 March),” the military source told MPA.
The military junta camps captured by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) are Nlung Hka Camp, Bum ye bum Camp, Hpun Pyen Bum Camp, Maliyang Camp, Hkaya bum Camp, Ntap Bum Camp, two Tarpain River Bridge Camps, Myothit Guard Camp, Gwei Ka Htaung Camp, and some small front-line camps near Laiza. It is reported that the 321st Infantry Battalion-based Shwe Nyaung Pin, and the army camps in Kunglaw village, Myothit, and Momauk Township continue to be attacked.
“Yesterday, people were killed because of the shelling from Hkaya Bum Camp and Hpunpyen Bum. When Phon Phen Bom was captured, the airplanes came again. The sounds did not stop all day until this morning,” said a local woman from Laiza who is fleeing the war.
In addition, at least two artillery shells exploded on the Chinese side when the military junta used aerial bombardment in the town of Laiza in the morning on March 8th.
“They are targeting and killing civilians. They bombed all night. Today (March 8th), they have been coming and firing since around 6:00 in the morning. I can’t see where they are falling. I didn’t dare to see out. On the side of China, there was one yesterday and another this morning,” said a local.
U Shwe Min, the leader of the Lisu militia under the military junta, was killed during the battle at the Nlung Hka camp yesterday (March 7th), and he considered that more air might be used.
At present, some local residents in Waingmaw-Laiza Road, Bhamo-Myitkyina Road, Laiza, Waingmaw and Momauk townships are fleeing to safety.
In November of last year, there were cases of heavy artillery shells from the Hpunpyen Bum and Kra Bum camps that exploded on the Chinese side and killed people.
