Battalion 5 of Thayet District under the NUG reported that 15 junta soldiers were killed in a close attack by the local defense forces on two trucks (FAW) carrying soldiers in Sinbaungwe Township, Magway Region.
On January 2nd, at around 10:00 am, the local defense forces opened fire at close range on two trucks with about 60 soldiers leaving the military gate camp of Da Non Myaung Village, Sinbaungwe Township, between Da Non Myaung Village and Kone Bo Village.
“They (junta soldiers) came back after they attacked around Bago Yoema (Bago Range) in collaboration with the 103rd Infantry Battalion of Taung Twin Gyi and the Ka-Pa-Sa 18 (Weapon Factory of the Junta). We attacked that group with a landmine between Karen Ma San and Pyin Kone Village, Aung Lan Township. On the second day, we attacked again and shot within 200 meters. All 15 of them were killed. The FAW truck was full of them, so the time was right, and everyone was hit. It only took one minute. We got the upper hand,” said the information officer of Battalion 5 in Thayet District.
The soldiers who died in the attack and the wounded were taken by the 103rd Battalion of the Taungtwingyi base and taken to the public hospital in Taungtwingyi.
“One civilian was hit by a bullet because the army shot around. We know that it hit the abdomen. The dead soldiers and the wounded were sent to Taung Twin. They were taken from Taung Twin. It is also known that two soldiers died again in the hospital,” said a member of the revolutionary forces.
The attack was carried out jointly by the 5th Battalion of Thayet District and the Sinnaungwe People’s Defense Force (Pa-Ka-Hpa under the NUG), and no PDF soldiers were harmed.
The deaths of the soldiers could not be independently confirmed by the MPA.
