Kawlin Info, which is the local news social media page, reports that the military junta troops opened fire on Kawlin, Sagaing Region, occupied by revolutionary forces, killing five people, including three women.
The 120th Light Infantry Battalion, based in Sun Tho, fired six rounds of howitzer cannon today (January 2nd) from around 9:00 a.m. and exploded in Kawlin downtown and east of Kawlin Market, injuring at least 10 people, including one child.
“We initially learned that two people died. They are the two women. One was in her 50s, and the other was in her 30s. We also learned that three more people died. There were many dead and injured people in the market. Eight people were seriously injured,” said an official from Kawlin Info.
It is said that the military junta is trying to recapture Kawlin Township, and the troops are firmly stationed in Kyauk Pa Htoe in the eastern part of Kawlin Township.
“The enemy is trying to recapture Kawlin at any time. There are two military camps in the region. They are stationed at Kyauk Pa Htoe on the eastern side of Kawlin. Kyauk Pa Htoe also has a hydropower station and gold mining work. Therefore, they can attack Kawlin back at any time,” said an ABSDF-North official.
The 120th Light Infantry Battalion, based in Wun Tho, opened fire with a howitzer, and the shell exploded in Taung Maw village at around 8:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023, killing one person and injuring four others.
Revolutionary forces captured Kawlin on November 6, 2023, and it was the first district town to be captured during the Spring Revolution.
