Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun added during his speech at the United Nations Conference, “the SAC Military opened fire with heavy weapons on a displacement camp in Laiza, Kachin State, causing the casualties of civilians including children.
When Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations, added the speech at the 78th United Nations General Assembly First Committee (the Disarmament and International Security Committee) on October 9, he added the attack on the Laiza displacement camp and urged the UN Member States and UN Security Council, to urgently implement a full arms embargo on the SAC military and stop the importation of fighter jet fuel, in order to stop the inhuman and brutal killings on the Myanmar people by the SAC military.
At around 11:30 p.m. of October 9, the SAC military opened fire on Laiza town and the IDP camp, where the KIA/KIO headquarters is located, resulting in at least 32 civilians including 13 children from the IDPs camp were killed.
In addition, the ambassador also added that about 18 students who are schooling at a monastery in Wuntho Township, Sagaing Region, were injured due to the SAC military opened fire with heavy weapons on September 27, and more than 160 people were killed due to the air attack on Pazigyi village in Kantbalu Township, on April 11.
“The ability to inform the world immediately from the UN platform that the SAC military is targeting the people of Myanmar, is due to the presence of the People’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun as the permanent representative of Myanmar,” said a political analyst.
The ambassador also added that there are no words to express the pain and suffering of the Myanmar people and that the incidents are beyond words.
“With the help of the countries that are transferring military equipment to the Myanmar Army (SAC military), the Myanmar Army (SAC military) is committing murders against the people of Myanmar. Despite repeated requests by the Myanmar people to the international community, the SAC military still receives military aircrafts, military equipment, related technologies,” said the ambassador.
He added, “After the illegal military coup, the SAC military imported and purchased over one billion dollars worth of weapons and accessories. More than 4,000 people, including women and children, were killed. Around 2 million people were displaced, and a total of more than 75,000 homes were destroyed and burned”.
“Many villages except the towns and cities in our Sagaing region are being burned by the SAC military. U Kyaw Moe Tun’s incessant mention of what the people are suffering at the United Nations is as if you are not ashamed to sit and watch doing nothing. Anyway, we have to say what needs to be said,” said a Monywa activist.
“According to the data of the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), from January to June 2023, the average number of airstrikes in Myanmar is about 30 attacks per month,” the ambassador added.
In addition, the ambassador urged the international community to keep a watchful eye on the Myanmar military’s intention to build a small nuclear power plant.
