An official of the Dawei-Democracy Movement Strike Committee (DDMSC) said that 8 people, including a member of the NLD Party, have been unjustly arrested in Launglon town, Tanintharyi Region.
The Military troops of the SAC from Dawei City and the police from Launglon Police Station had arrested 8 people in Launglon town from 31st March to 2nd April.
“The 5 women and 3 men, including a man and a woman who are 20 years old, were arrested. Among those arrested were a mother and her son and three family members who are the members of the NLD party. The rest were arrested separately. They were arrested at home,” he said.At the night of April 31st, a mother and her son were arrested in Launglon town, and on March 1st, a man and a woman were arrested by military troops of the SAC at their home.
An official of the DDMSC said that in the afternoon of March 2nd, a man who is a member of the NLD and his wife and daughter were arrested together, and a woman was arrested again in the evening of the same day. The SAC military and the police have searched and inspected about 20 houses in Launglon town.
“All of them were arrested at home. In fact, there is still a strike in Launglon and people who are not involved in strike are being arrested because the SAC could not be arrested them. Those who were arrested were not on strike either. They live peacefully,” he continued.
The 8 arrested persons are being detained at the Police Station of Launglon town and have not been allowed to see their family members until 5:30 this evening.
