It is reported that six local people are missing from the villages that were burned by the military in Depeyin Township, Sagaing Region.
On January 9th, the SAC military burned down Inn Taing Lay village, and the villagers of Inn Taing Lay,U Myint Nyein, U Tin Moe, and Daw Phyu, were missing. Depeyin Township Brotherhood Group announced that the body of U Wun Mya (85 years old), who was in poor health and unable to escape, was found burned to death.
Of the two missing people from Chaung Nar Village, which the SAC troops stormed and burned on Jan. 9, U Thein Tun returned with injuries, and U Myint Swe is still missing.
The 80-year-old grandfather U Tin Maung and 70-year-old grandmother Daw San Nu from Inn Tann village, which the SAC troops entered and burned on Jan. 11, are also missing after being trapped inside the village when the military entered the village, according to the Depeyin Township.
“In the 40 days from Dec. 1 to Jan. 9, about 3,500 houses were burned down, so the list of missing people that we know now is as much as we can get. It could be more. Up until now, everyone is still running in disarray, so the number is not stable,” said a person helping IDPs.
On Jan. 7, an 84-year-old grandfather who could not escape was burned to death when the SAC troops entered Satpyarkyin village and burned it down.
In the 40 days from Dec. 1 to Jan. 9, 3461 houses, 3 mills, and 24 shops in 36 villages and 36 villages in Depeyin Township were burned and destroyed, according to the People’s Administration of Depeyin Township.
From the time the military seized power until Jan. 9, 2023, 4,819 public houses have been burned down by the SAC’s arson in Depeyin Township.
