The funeral ceremony of the people of Mong Lai Hkyet IDP Camp who died due to the heavy weapon firing by the SAC was held today (October 10th) at about 3:30 in the evening in a cemetery of Laiza Town.
30 people, including 13 children (including 11 children under the age of 16) from the Mong Lai Hkyet IDP camp, died due to the heavy weapons. Those who died were buried in the cemetery in Laiza.
“One of the dead was a two-month-old baby. It’s the baby who didn’t know anything about it. Some of them were whole families. Because it was at night, people didn’t have time to escape,” said a resident of the Mong Lai Hkyet IDP camp.
In addition, there are about 57 injured people who are receiving medical treatment at Laiza Public Hospital.
“Houses were also damaged. The amount of damage is not known yet. The injured are in Laiza Hospital,” a resident of Laiza told MPA.
There are about 160 households, including displaced people from Nam Sam Yang and La Jar Yang villages, and more than 700 people living in the Mong Lai Hkyet IDP Camp.
Currently, the SAC troops have been continuously firing heavy weapons at the vicinity of Laiza Town since this morning, and at around 12:00 in the afternoon, a fighter jet bombarded the vicinity of Lailum Aung village on the Bhamo-Myitkyina road.
