On November 30th, the whole world heard the sound of a gun being tossed on the other plate of the scales of justice, which is very impartial that even a single strand of hair does not deviate.
On November 30, the military court of the terrorist SAC opened the sealed Insein prison and sentenced 7 students and 4 youths who are fresh and youthful to death.
On April 18, 2022, 7 Dagon University students were sentenced to death under Section 302 (a) of the Penal Code for allegedly shooting and killing a former military officer of the Global Treasure Bank manager in South Dagon township. Similarly, on May 24, 2022, 4 youths were sentenced to death for allegedly being involved in the shooting of the administrator of Ward 45 in the North Dagon.
The military court is the most lawless place where there is absolutely no basic right and legal rights and no right to appeal. Also, those who are making judgments rather than the military court are armed blooms and branches who have not even spelled the word ‘LAW’ correctly in successive military regimes.
Such a military court easily imposes the death penalty ending the right of human life, which is entirely unacceptable to the civilized society of the modern world. How easy was the death penalty for the SAC, and how much was the SAC vindictive over it?
According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners Burma (AAPP), from February 1, 2021, to December 2, 2022, there were 139 people sentenced to death by the SAC in connection with the coup d’état. The fact that number of death sentences related to politics in less than two years of the coup d’état are much higher than the total number of political death sentences imposed by successive governments from the time of the British government until the end of January 2021, which shows the malice of the SAC.
For the SAC, the death penalty was not only huge vindictiveness but also a political weapon. Not only they dare to question whether it would accept their political wishes, but also threaten the Myanmar People and the international community that they would pull the trigger on the gallows at any moment. In addition, it is practical proof that the SAC cannot accept the immediate cessation of violence and the meeting and discussion of the 5-Point ASEAN Consensus, which the international community has repeatedly demanded.
Last July, in defiance of the strong prohibition of the international community, the SAC secretly hanged 4 activists in Insein prison.
Even after facing strong condemnation from the international community after such executions, in addition to that, they do not promise that the hanging will not be committed again, and the fact that seven university students and four youths have been sentenced to death by the illegal military tribunal is another silent message that they are ready to continue another hanging in prison.
The Dagon University Students’ Union has requested that the SAC imposing the death penalty on the students is a violent act of revenge to the point of complete destruction on anyone who opposes them and that the international community use all possible means to prevent and take action against the SAC that imposes the death penalty.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for a moratorium on death sentences and executions as the SAC.
However, the SAC has repeatedly proven that it will not seriously take to the tongue-in-cheek demands and statements made by the international community.
Therefore, it is time to put an end to the diplomatic treatment that has not found a cure for the Myanmar issue. And also, the MPA has urged that the SAC should be ended with strong and effective actions.
