The military launched air attacks near No.2 Friendship Bridge of Myawaddy, Karen State, at midnight on April 21, killing more than 10 people, including an underage child, according to residents of the town.
“The junta dropped a bomb for the first time. The next time were 5 bombs in a row, so we can’t even run. They dropped 500-pound bombs,” a man who lives in Myawaddy Ward No.5, explained.
He continued that due to the junta’s airstrikes, nearly 10 civilians from Myawaddy Ward No.5 were killed, and homes and a monastery were also destroyed.
“We still don’t know the exact number of people who were killed. People were scattered because all were fleeing from war. We still can’t say everything exactly because we have the responsibility to help the people who fled. We can only give an estimate,” a man helping the Myawaddy displaced people, told MPA.
More than 10 people, including a 14-year-old child, were reportedly killed by the junta’s bombing and heavy weapons.
“I heard the sounds of heavy weapons from the No.2 friendship bridge. Even my house was shaken. The house is closer to the shore, so it shakes more. The people from some houses near it can’t even sleep because they’re afraid that the weapon will fall through the border,” said a Myanmar woman from Gate 35 in Tark district, Mae Sot.
Nearly 30 people who were injured by the junta’s heavy weapons are receiving medical treatment at the Mae Sot Hospital, in Thailand, and the military junta troops are reportedly included among the injured.
