More than 60 ward and village administrators _ from Zalun town in Ayeyarwady Region _ have resigned because they do not want to attend the military training, according to local people.
“They said administrators have to attend the military training twice this month. The first time has already been completed, and after the first military training, the ward and village administrators have submitted their resignations to the police station of the relevant townships,” a man close to a Daungyi village administrator told MPA.
As the military junta will conduct the second military training inside Zalun town on January 22, the ward and village administrators _ who have not yet submitted their resignations _ have also submitted their resignations, he explained.
“After the training, administrators who attend the training will be paid more than 300,000 per month. They said the administrators will be given weapons, then they have to provide security guards for the neighborhoods. I attended the first training on January 10,” a ward administrator attending the military training said.
“Last year, ward and village administrators attended military training in Zalun town. This year, the administrators have submitted their resignations due to news that the administrators _ who have already attended the military training _ will be sent to the front lines,” a resident in Zalun said.
I heard news that after the training, the trainees will be sent to the front line, so all the administrators have resigned, he said.
“In addition, many young people in Zalon town are fleeing to safety because they are forced to join the military, giving money incentives,” a man in Deikin village said.
