In the 2-day ‘Three Years After the Coup’ seminar led by the Thai opposition ‘Move Forward’ party in Thailand, the Thai political leaders recognized the Spring Revolution and were on the side of the Myanmar people, and it was a good result, according to the participants of the discussion.
The seminar was held in the Thai Parliament on March 2 and 3, and some leaders of Pheu Thai party which is the current Thai Prime Minister’s party, the Move Forward Party leaders, the NUG’s Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung, Myanmar Ambassador to the United Nations U Kyaw Moe Tun, Karen National Union (KNU), NUCC representatives and pro-democracy activists on Myanmar issues also attended this seminar.
“As a result, Thai political parties, and political leaders desire to deeply resolve the issue of Myanmar, and are already trying to do it. We can also see that they recognize the revolutionary forces of the Spring Revolution like NUG, EROs, and NUCC, and have invited them. They have never had such a seminar before. I see that the result is good,” said Daw Khin Ohmar, chairperson of Progressive Voice.
During the two-day seminar, the focus was mainly on Myanmar’s humanitarian crisis, conscription law, the future of federal democracy, and the protection of Myanmar nationals living in Thailand, according to the attendees.
“At this seminar, they did not call and invite the junta military. That is why the junta military sent letters protesting this event. It can be seen more clearly that the Thai parliament and political leaders are on the side of the people of the Spring Revolution. I think the Thai parliament will have to try to make sure that the Thai government encourages the spring revolution and fulfills the wishes of the Myanmar people on the right approach and policies to the Myanmar issues. I consider this seminar as a very encouraging first step,” said Daw Khin Ohmar.
The Chairperson of the Committee on National Security and Border Affairs, Mr. Rangsiman Rome, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Padipat Suntiphada, addressed the seminar’s opening ceremony, and the 2-day seminar was held according to the agendas.
“During the discussion, they (Thai leaders) accept that the junta’s objection letter is not a matter that can be sent legally. They have accepted that the Myanmar junta cannot object to whatever they (Thai leaders) do in the Thai parliament. They said they will try more to stand by the Myanmar people and the Thai government as a whole will try to stand up,” a man who participated in the seminar said.
A total of around 200 people reportedly also attended the 2-day seminar.
