It is reportedly difficult to buy food for displaced people due to fuel shortage in Moemeik Township, Northern Shan State, where the fighting was intense.
“The military junta and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) have fought in the town of Moemeik since January 18. So, more than 3,400 displaced people _ from the town residents and the 22 villages where are affected by war _ have fled to the villages, churches and temples outside of Moemeik town, and some of them have fled to Mandalay City and other towns,” a person helping displaced people, said.
“Currently, it is a situation that needs donors for food. Food is also in urgent need. We have to go to Kyaukme Township from the displaced place to buy food by motorbike and car. Now that we are running out of fuel, we have no food,” he said.
In addition, health care reportedly is also needed for the displaced people from Moemeik town.
Due to the fighting, there are no more doctors or clinics. As for health, there is also a need for medicine. The groups that were helping in the past also do not have enough funds, he added.
Moemeik Town is currently under the control of the Military Junta, and the people who return to the town are arrested and shot, so they do not dare to return to the town, according to local residents.
“The residential people who have returned to the town have also been arrested. Shops that have been closed in the city have also been stolen,” said a local.
The phone lines and internet lines reportedly are cut off in Moemeik Township, and many houses in Moemeik have already been burnt to ashes by the arson of the junta troops.
