It is reported that the people who are trapped between the battles in Mongmit, northern Shan State, are short of rice.
There has been a fierce battle between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Military Junta within Memeit Town since January 18, and some people have been trapped in the town, according to some residents.
“My acquaintances from the town told me that they are in a shortage of rice. They asked me where to get rice. The phone lines have been cut, so we can’t do anything to help them. They are running out of food,” said a local resident from outside the town.
It has been learned that some people left behind to take care of houses in Mongmit are still trapped and told that there was a shortage of rice before the phone line went out.
“The phone and internet lines in the town have been down for three days. We can’t have any connection with them. I haven’t heard anything from them yet . Those who have been contacted are the ones who are staying away from town. I know that many houses in the town have been burned,” said a person who fled from Mongmit.
There are reports that about 40 people among the people trapped in Mongmit Town have already died due to unprovoked firing by the junta troops, heavy weapons, and aerial bombardment, he added.
The KIA has not released any news about the fighting situation in Mongmit.
