After three days of fighting between the SAC troops and the Thayarawaddy District-PDF in Natalin Township, Thayarawaddy District, Bago Region, and the death of six SAC troops, the military is using civilians as human shields, according to the Thayarawaddy District-PDF, Phoenix DF (Nattalin PDF), Company – 2.
“In the 3-day battle, 6 soldiers died on the spot. We can say that around 10 were injured. On the first day, we shot a motorboat with about 15 troops from the Mangye Pin Dam to provide reinforcements to the Bogyi camp. On the second day, about 35 soldiers came to provide reinforcements from Theingone without using the waterway. We attacked with land mines. On the third day, the boat turned back. The Theingone group stopped coming up, so they gathered at the Bogyi camp. There are now more than 70 soldiers. To this day, there has been no advance. If their column advances, the villagers are forced to go ahead of the column without arresting and tying them up,” said Thayarwaddy district-PDF, Phoenix DF (Nattalin PDF), Company – 2.
In such situations, due to the presence of civilians, there are situations where the set mines could not be detonated, and there are also those that have been confiscated. In addition, it was learned that there were situations where they fired sparingly due to insufficient ammunition.
On Jan. 28, at around 3:30 p.m., the SAC troops that came to support their troops by three boats from the boat terminal of Mangye Pin Dam were attacked by the Thayarwaddy District – PDF, so the three boats turned back and opened fire with heavy and small arms.
“When the boat was surrounded by us, we could have finished it. But we couldn’t finish it because of inadequacies. That’s why we couldn’t seize the weapons,” said Tharayaddy District-PDF, Company – 2 Phoenix DF.
On the evening of Jan. 27, 35 soldiers who came to Bogyi camp from Nattalin township from Theingone village of Paungde township were attacked by land mines near Pyin Makhaung Village, resulting in two soldiers being killed and three wounded.
On Jan. 26, the SAC troops marching from the boat terminal of the Tamarin Pin Dam were intercepted and attacked, resulting in 4 deaths and 6 injuries. These attacks were carried out jointly by Tharawaddy District-PDF (Battalion – 3801); Company-1 (Zigon-PDF), Company- 2(Phoenix DF), Company-3 (Nat Sitt The), and Company-4 (MRF-Nattalin).
